An exhibition will be held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of RIMPA. RIMPA is a Japanese style of painting, founded by Honami Kouetsu (本阿弥光悦)and Tawaraya Soutatsu (俵屋宗達) in the 16th century, and then inherited by Ogata Kourin(尾形光琳) in the 17th century. The RIMPA style was applied to a wide range of art forms, including paintings and crafts, and is well known for its bold composition and beautiful decorative detail. The exhibition will display new works created by 207 artists, and is a good opportunity to experience modern RIMPA in Kyoto, the city where the technique began.
