Arts & Performances

Kyoto is a birth place of traditional arts, crafts and performances of Japan,
and has been maintaining its tradition with the coming of the new age.
Here GTK'd like to introduce the monthly art highlights, museums, creators etc.

SESSON: A Singular Painter

Green Tour Kyoto would like to introduce the MIHO MUSEUM’s special exhibition, featuring the works painted by Sesson, an artist monk of the 16th century.

While the artists at that time followed the authentic Chinese painting style, Sesson’s paintings, ranging from portraits to landscapes, were well-known for their singular and dramatic style.
Ogata Korin was fond of Sesson’s paintings and is said to have made fine reproductions of them.

Sesson’s painting style has been handed down by the Kano School painters since his time.
This exhibition is the biggest retrospective of Sesson’s work to date, including 80 works and 30 relevant works by artists inspired by Sesson.
At the same time, visitors can enjoy the wide range of the MIHO MUSEUM collections, including ancient arts from Egypt, Greece, Central Asia, China, Korea, and more, as well as the collection of Buddhist arts and Japanese ancient arts, among others.
It would be a nice day immersing yourself in art in the Konan Alps, escaping from the heat of Kyoto city.

*Some of the exhibits will be replaced during the exhibition.
