This is Kyôsai ! The Israel Goldman Collection. Celebrated Japanese artist.
Kyosai Kawanabe (1831-1889) was a well-known painter in the Edo and Meiji era. He studied under famous ukiyoe artist, Kuniyoshi Utagawa at the age of seven, then entered the Kano School. After finishing the school, he created a variety of works ranging from Buddhist paintings to caricature. His excellent and elaborate expression of paintings as well as his observation ability became popular worldwide.
This exhibition shows a wide variety of Kyosai’s paintings including drawings, wood block printings and picture diary, along with authentic Japanese paintings.You can enjoy the Kyosai World beloved beyond the borders of words and culture.
