Returning Home:EDO paintings from THE GITTER-YELEN COLLECTION

Copyright : 谷文晁筆 「山水図」(右隻) 文政11年(1828)

This is the exhibition of Japanese paintings from the Edo era of which Dr. Gitter and his wife living in New-Orleans had been collecting for about 40 years. They were fascinated by pure and simple Japanese art and collected a wide range of Japanese art mainly from the Edo era such as zen paintings in the style of ink painting, Ukiyoe, the Rimpa school etc. Therefore this exhibition will be held from a unique perspective : with “a Japanese collection of one American collector”.
