Hydrangea viewing
Hydrangea viewing
We could say June is the month of hydrangea.
Especially in Japan, there is much rain this month, so we can see a beautiful scene with hydrangea leaves wet in the rain.
GTK choose one temple, Mimurotoji to see 10,000 hydrangea trees in the Uji area, southern part of Kyoto.
Uji is famous for the Tale of Genji, Byodo-in Temple.
(check the detail of the Uji area, see the plan in May here: http://www.greentour-kyoto.net/events/the-uji-area/)
When you visit Mimurotoji, GTK recommends to start walking from Manpukuji Temple.
Maupukuji belongs to the Obaku sect of Zen Buddhism, and its appearance and interior have Chinese atmosphere.
After Manpukuji, you can enjoy walking around the local Uji town to Mimurotoji.
Please check the route on the website of Keihan Railway: http://www.okeihan.net/navi/event/hiking/map/uji/book_swf.html
After enjoying the hydrangea garden in the Mimurotoji ground, you can stop by Byodoin Temple or Ujigami Shrine on the way to JR Uji Station or Keihan Uji Station.
