This month, GTK recommends you play in the river.
Kamo River of course!, and Kiyotaki in the Arashiyama area, Yase area are nice too.
Out to the Biwa Lake is also fine!

But in Kyoto, how about in the stream flowing through the shrine?

Shimogamo Shrine holds an annual event called Mitarashi Matsuri in the stream through the shrine in every July.
In this year, it will start 22nd until 30th.

People pay ¥300 yen to enter a designated area on the shrine ground, usually closed to public, and buy a candle.
Take off the shoes and put in the stream.
You may be surprised with very cold water in the stream!!
This is not just an event. It’s sacred ceremony that originated from the ritual purification in ancient times. While wading in the sacred stream, refresh yourself and pray for good health in this summer’s severe heat.
