Arts & Performances

Kyoto is a birth place of traditional arts, crafts and performances of Japan,
and has been maintaining its tradition with the coming of the new age.
Here GTK'd like to introduce the monthly art highlights, museums, creators etc.

MUNAKATA Shiko Hanga Exhibition

Munakata Shiko (1903-1975) was well-known as the hanga (art print) artist who was from Tohoku and established his original folk style of printing.
This exhibition features his paintings on the furnishing of his friend’s house in Kyoto, such as on sliding doors, on door shelves, on storeroom doors etc.
The images of his works ranged widely from colored landscape to dynamic calligraphic art.
You can see the strong expression of his soul through about 45 works being displayed at this time.
