Ancient Glass: Feast of Color -on Special Loan from the British Museum
Ancient glass collection in B.C including 10 treasures from the British Museum is being exhibited at MIHO MUSEUM, located on the mountain in Shiga Prefecture.
According to the ancient literature of ancient Egypt etc, people seemed to make glass instead of getting precious jewels. They mixed some metals and mineral to the glass materials, sand, plant ash etc. For example, they mixed cobalt when they wanted to make some blue glass like Lapis lazuli.
In this exhibition, you can enjoy not only a wide range of ancient glass collection but also a regular collection of this museum, which includes the statues of Buddhism, archaeological treasures mainly in the West Asia.
Access from Kyoto Station: Take JR Biwako line @ Kyoto Station and get off at Ishiyama Station (13 mins). Take Teisan Bus Line from JR Ishiyama Station (50 mins).
