Arts & Performances

Kyoto is a birth place of traditional arts, crafts and performances of Japan,
and has been maintaining its tradition with the coming of the new age.
Here GTK'd like to introduce the monthly art highlights, museums, creators etc.

Akira Yamaguchi Exhibition

Akira Yamaguchi, born in 1969, is a unique Japanese painter who creates the new style of oil paintings look like the woodblock printings.
Take a look at the picture above. Its looking is a kind of ukiyoe which was painted in the Edo era, but the characters in it are mixed with the past, the future and the present. Some characters wear kimono in the Edo style and some wear the present dress and enjoy the board games.
His works were decided to be used for the sliding doors in Byodo-in Temple in the Uji area of Kyoto. The sliding door paintings by the present painter will amazingly be displayed with the paintings on the sliding doors by the Kano school in the Edo era.
This exhibition would be a must-see exhibition in Kyoto!
