Jisso-in Temple, founded in the 13th century, is located in Iwakura, the northern part of Kyoto. This temple was categorized as a “monzeki temple”, which means the members of imperial family or nobles had engaged in temple activities, acting as monks, for generations.
The document “Jisso-in Documents”, designated as the Cultural Property of Kyoto City last year, indicates Jisso-in was the center of culture in the Middle Ages.
This display features beautiful paintings drawn on the sliding doors as well as the cedar doors in Jisso-in, which were painted by the famous Kano school. Buddhist statues and historical documents are also displayed.
