OBAKE UKIYO-E Exhibition
At the end of the Edo period, people enjoyed talking about ghost stories. Their interest in “Obake”, monsters or apparitions, increased.
Some of the ghost stories such as “Yotsuya-kaidan” and “Sarayashiki” were performed in Kabuki performance and depicted on Ukiyo-e, wood-block printings.
This exhibition will display about 100 Obake Ukiyo-e, which were created by famous Ukiyo-e artists, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi etc.
